Why test and tag matters under Victorian law

Victorian workplaces are required to manage electrical risks under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and the OHS Regulations 2017. Testing and tagging portable electrical equipment in accordance with AS/NZS 3760 is the recognised way to demonstrate compliance. Our testing provides a clear, defensible record that you’ve met your duty of care.

Common questions about test & tag

How often does electrical equipment need to be tested and tagged?
Under AS/NZS 3760, testing intervals depend on the environment. Construction sites require testing every 3 months. Offices are generally every 5 years for double-insulated equipment and 12 months for earthed equipment. High-use environments like gyms and hospitality venues are typically 12 months. We’ll advise the correct interval for your situation.
Do I legally have to test and tag my appliances in Victoria?
Victorian businesses have a legal obligation to manage electrical risks under the OHS Act and Regulations. Testing to AS/NZS 3760 is widely recognised as the standard way to demonstrate compliance. WorkSafe Victoria inspectors expect to see evidence of electrical safety management.
How long does it take to test and tag a workplace?
A small office with 30–40 items typically takes around an hour. A large gym or commercial kitchen may take a half-day. We’ll give you an accurate time estimate when you call — just let us know the number of items and the type of environment.
What happens if equipment fails a test?
Failed items are tagged “Out of Service” and should be removed from use immediately. They appear clearly in your compliance report. In many cases Sandro can also diagnose and repair the faulty appliance on the spot — a real advantage of having a qualified appliance repair technician do your testing.
Do you service Frankston, Mornington and Cranbourne?
Yes — we cover the full Frankston LGA, Mornington Peninsula (from Mount Eliza to Rye and Hastings), and the Cranbourne corridor including Cranbourne North, Cranbourne East, Clyde, Berwick and Narre Warren. Just call if you’re not sure whether we cover your suburb.
Can you test equipment outside business hours?
Yes. Early morning, evening, and weekend appointments are available on request — ideal for gyms, cafés, and childcare centres that can’t afford testing disruption during trading hours.
